Weke ʻā or yellowstripe goatfish are an endemic Hawaiʻi fish found in our reefs and shores. Their distinctive yellow stripes and brownish mark near their dorsal fin will set them apart from other weke similar in color. There are many types of weke and weke ʻā can sometimes be confused with their close cousin, weke ʻula or yellowtail goatfish. These two types of weke are known to intermingle and school together as early as juvenile days when they are referred to as ʻoama.
